President Barbara Cotnam called the meeting to order at 1:00 o'clock p.m. Barbara welcomed the members and reported that it would be the Club's last time to meet at the Methodist Church. She noted that it has been a great place to meet, the Club has felt very welcomed here and all the Club's needs have been met by Marty and Cam Koblish and Chuck Hathaway. Barbara hopes that everyone will feel as much at home at the Community Center as they have here at the church. She also noted that parking will be a great deal easier at the Community Center and there will be three large rooms for the Club meetings.

Carol Kolb was thanked for her work organizing today's refreshments. Hostess Karen Voorhees, her committee members, Regina McDowell, Ruth Norman, and Joyce Sterling and the seven members who supplied the delicious sandwiches and desserts were also given appreciative thanks for serving refreshments " picnic style" at today's meeting. Six dozen cookies were compliments of Stop and Shop in Harwich. Lorraine Bolus was given thanks for another outstanding centerpiece. Barbara also thanked the well organized workers who greet members at every meeting. They keep track of the number of attendees and give out and collect name tags at each meeting. The Club greeters are Jean Greenough, Trisha Vincent and Karen Voorhees who has been filling in for Anne Robinson. Anne has been at home caring for her Mother who had suffered a bad fall. Anne has been a greeter for the Club for many years.

Barbara reported that in the Fall the Club will be welcoming 15 new members. She noted that some of these members-in -waiting have already signed up to help with the summer beautification projects.

There were 85 members present and 14 guests in attendance. Several guests were given introductions.

Barbara noted that Secretary Janet Marjollet had posted the May Minutes on the Club web site and had provided copies at today's meeting for members to read. The minutes were approved and will be placed on file.

Treasurer Claire Dubis read the financial report for May 2008. The balance forwarded on April 30, 2008 was $2749.96. Total receipts were $4049.48. Total disbursements were $545. 22. Balance on hand on May 30, 2008 was $6149.22. The Chatham Historical Society and the Chatham Garden Club each netted $435 from the House Tour held in May. The report was accepted as read and will be placed on file for future audit.

Barbara reminded members to take home today's Newsletter and to mark their calendars with Garden Club dates for the first two meetings in the Fall. A letter with the specifics about the October 21st meeting at the Truro Vineyards of Cape Cod in Truro, along with the 2008-2009 Yearbook, will be sent in September. The first meeting to be held in the Community Center will be November18th. Marty Koblish and her committee have planned some exciting programs for the coming year. The Newsletter has information on upcoming events that may be of interest to members.

Club member Susan Morgan has a 1931 Roadster for the Club's use in the 4th of July Parade. Joyce Williams suggested that members, wearing Garden Club aprons and carrying baskets with flowers or gardening tools, walk along side the car. Signs with the Club's logo are being made for use in the parade. The parade theme is Lighthouses. Those members interested in walking in the parade should contact Barbara.

Barbara also reminded members that the Garden Club Market is August 15th. Flyers about the fund raiser were available at today's meeting . The telephone committee will contact members to remind them of their commitment.

Ruth Lund set up a table with anniversary cups for those who had not received their anniversary memento.

Barbara also noted that the Atwood House Museum is still in need of 5 flower arrangers. A clip board was passed around for volunteers. To avoid staining the tables, Mary Ann Gray asked volunteers to remove the stamens from any lilies that they might use.

Another clip board was passed around requesting volunteers for A Symphony of Houses tour which is sponsored by and benefits the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. The Newsletter contains more information.

Barbara reported that Karen Schwalm and her committee will be observing store front gardens and window boxes this summer for the eighth annual judging of the Chamber of Commerce beautification awards. Marty Koblish creates the beautiful framed awards which are presented to the winners in October at a Chamber of Commerce dinner. A round of applause was given to those involved for all their efforts.

Appreciative thanks were given to all those members who work so diligently at the Club's 12 Beautification Gardens. Barbara has taken early pictures of the gardens and will be following up with additional pictures in July.

Barbara reported that there is a new nursery in Eastham called Nauset Gardens and they feature native plants. They have an interactive web site, www.nausetgardens.com/capecodforum.htm, where questions can be answered.

Mary Ellen Sussman offered a Buddleia shrub for silent auction with bidding starting at $10. The shrub would cost at least $25 at a nursery.

Marty Koblish announced the Art In Bloom program and suggested the best way to view it throughout Fellowship Hall and into the Library. The program featured art objects with accompanying floral arrangements created by 15 of the Club's talented members. There were 17 displays for viewing.

Barbara thanked the members for the lovely displays for the Club's very own " Art in Bloom". It was another delightful occasion in celebration of the Club's 40th Anniversary and congratulations were given to all those who participated.

President Barbara Cotnam called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m.

Barbara welcomed members to the May meeting, noting that the anniversary celebration in April was still being enjoyed. Thanks to Lillian Walsh, Hospitality Hostess, the remainder of the anniversary cake had been frozen and will be served as part of today's refreshments. Ruth Lund, Chairman of the anniversary celebration, will continue to distribute anniversary cups today to those members who had not received their mementos. Barbara also welcomed back Past President Jan Gagliano who had been away during the celebration

Barbara announced that the April Secretary's Report had been posted on the website and copies were available to read at today's meeting. The minutes were approved and will be placed on file.

Treasurer Claire Dubis read the financial report for April 2008. The balance forwarded on March 31, 2008 was $2919.36. Total receipts were $1355.00 dollars and total disbursements were $1524.40. Balance on hand April 30, 2008 was $2749.96. The report was accepted as read and will be placed on file for future audit. Claire reported that 113 members had yet to pay their dues. She hoped to collect from many of them today. Membership dues are $25 dollars and Sustaining Membership dues are $35 dollars. Although the Sustaining Membership list is currently closed, new applicants will be placed on the Sustaining Waiting List. Claire also noted that any changes to members information, i.e. name, address, e-mail etc., should be sent to her by June 30th for inclusion in the Yearbook.

Barbara and the membership gave thanks to Claire for her seventeen years of service to the Club.

Barbara thanked Hospitality Hostesses Carol Kolb and Lillian Walsh, their Committee Members Joanne Donoghue, Lois Firisin, Judy McCoy, Regina McDowell, and Norma Wagner, along with the seven members who contributed to the delicious refreshments. Tea pourers were Judy McCoy and Norma Wagner. Alice Duthie created the lovely centerpiece. Carol Kolb announced that a clip board would be passed around. Volunteers are needed for "food only " for the months of April, May and June and centerpiece creators for May and June of 2009.

Barbara asked members to look over the information left on the round table. She noted that Yearbooks were available for those members waiting to be initiated and interest forms were available for those members who had not yet filled one out. Barbara thanked those who had responded. Barbara also noted that there were flyers on the table with information about events that members might be interested in attending. A sign- -up sheet was also available for volunteers who wish to participate in the 3rd annual Symphony of Houses tour which will be held September 6, 2008. It is being sponsored by The Cultural Center of Cape Cod.

Several clip boards were passed around. They included the following: Sign-up sheets from Co-chairmen Pat Handalian and Carol Kolb for the Chatham Garden Club Market. One sheet indicates the item a member will contribute , and the other asks members to commit to a task for the event. The Market will be held at the Chatham Festival of the Arts on Friday, August 15, 2008.

Judy Clifford will be chairing a transition team of greeters and guides when the Club meets at the Community Center in October. Judy is looking for six volunteers for that committee.

Four Beautification Projects are looking for more volunteers. Barbara encouraged members and members- in- waiting to join the volunteer list. She noted that there are currently 83 Garden Club members working on the projects this summer.

Tim Wood of the Cape Cod Chronicle is looking for Club members interested in writing a gardening article for the paper. Barbara Cotnam has submitted an article and Marty Koblish , Joyce Williams and Anne O'Brien will also be participating. A sign-up sheet is available for those who are interested.

Barbara gave praise to the Chatham Garden Club's founder, Helen Norton. She read a poem written by Kathleen Dow in 2001 as a tribute to Helen. " Helen planted the seeds of our Club and hundred of members through the years have nurtured those seeds." , Barbara reported. She noted that the Club started with 22 members and now numbers almost 200 members.

Barbara reported that the Historic House Tour was a great success. She gave thanks to Mary Ann Gray who was Chair for the Chatham Historical Society and to Gerry Seem and Ali van der Burg who Chaired the event for the Club. Barbara also thanked the volunteers who provided flowers at the houses and those who were hostesses.

Barbara reported that the magazine CHATHAM displayed Mary Ellen Sussman's garden in a featured article.

Marty Koblish announced that Art- in -Bloom is the program for June 17th. Fourteen people have signed up to do a pairing of an art object with a flower exhibit. It will be an intra-club program for members to display their talents. There will not be any judging.

Janet Gagliano and Emily Jostrand selected the winners for the Spring Hat Gala. Anne O'Brien won for Creativity, Linda Smith for Whimsical, and Ginny Hamblet for Elegant. A five dollar gift certificate to Pine Tree Nursery was awarded to each of the winners by the Club.

Marty Koblish introduced program speaker, Peg Rasmussen, who is a Master Gardener and Nauset Garden Club member. Peg's topic was "Age Old Herbs for Contemporary Gardens." Peg showed members how the use of herbs in our gardens can add texture and color as well as giving a culinary benefit. She provided handouts which gave information about the herbs and their uses and also helpful information on their planting locations. Peg gave first choice of the herbs she had brought for the demonstration to the winners of the Spring Hat Gala. The remainder of the plants were given away to members.

Barbara thanked Peg for her fascinating and informative program.

Barbara reported that the June meeting will be casual. The social time refreshments will be cold drinks, sandwiches, chips and cookies for dessert.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:45 p.m.
